Corporate Volunteering in Costa Rica: How Your Company Can Make an Impact
October 27, 2026 · Costa Rica · 5 min read
Your team's best day of the year might not happen in a meeting room. It might happen on a riverbank, or in a classroom built with a community.
More and more companies see corporate volunteering in Costa Rica as more than a nice gesture. HR teams want closer, more motivated teams. Sustainability teams need impact they can measure and report. And many employees simply want their work to mean something beyond the office. A well-planned volunteer day can deliver all three at once.
Why corporate volunteering in Costa Rica matters now
Costa Rica built its reputation on protecting nature. Many companies here, local and multinational, share that commitment in their ESG goals. Still, too many volunteer days end the same way: a group photo, a T-shirt and little else.
Real impact needs real projects. They should be chosen together with the communities and authorities who live with the results. That is how we have worked at Greentalist since 2001. In more than 20 years, our volunteers have helped build over 50 classrooms in indigenous schools. Every year, they give more than 1,000 hours to environmental work across the country.
Four ways to bring your team to the field
Every company has different time, budget and goals. That is why corporate volunteering works best when it is designed around you. These are the four formats we offer:
- 1 dayRapid impact daysQuick team building with a real local connection. Think reforestation, watershed clean-ups or maintenance of biological reserves.
- 1 to 3 daysConservation in national parksYour team supports protected ecosystems. Activities include trail maintenance, basic infrastructure and logistical support for park rangers.
- 3 to 5+ daysImmersion and high-impact projectsDeep work with rural and indigenous communities. Teams help build and improve classrooms, or support rural water systems.
- 2 to 4 hoursIn-company workshopsEnvironmental learning at your office. Topics include climate change, waste management and cultural preparation before a field day.
Many companies combine both worlds. A short workshop at the office prepares the team, and then the field day goes deeper.
Your team should only need to show up. Everything else, from transport to safety, is our job.
What your company gains
A stronger team
People who share an honest day of work come back different. They see colleagues in new roles. Trust grows faster outside the office, and it stays when everyone returns.
Impact you can report
After each day, we deliver an impact report, photos and a participation certificate for every employee. Your sustainability team can add them directly to its ESG and SDG reports.
Legitimate community impact
No project is improvised. Each one is coordinated with local communities and authorities. We also work in coordination with the MEP and under an agreement with SINAC.
A story worth telling
Real projects create real stories. They give your internal and external communication something genuine to share, far beyond a press release.
Safety first, every single time
Our corporate days run under the same safety framework as all our field programs. Every activity has insurance coverage and an emergency response plan. Staff trained in first aid join every group. When we work in indigenous territories, we follow consultation and cultural respect protocols.
Your team does not need any field experience. Our guides stay with them from start to finish. We also coordinate transport and meals, plus lodging for multi-day projects. You can read more about our approach on our Health and Safety page.
From the first call to the final report
- 1. Initial requestYou share your goals, estimated budget, tentative dates and team size through our form.
- 2. Technical and financial proposalWe design a tailored plan with location options, a budget breakdown and complete logistics.
- 3. AgreementWe sign a cooperation agreement, confirm insurance and schedule, and hold induction sessions.
- 4. Field day and reportWe lead the activity on site. Then we deliver a final report with metrics, photos and video for your communication.
Plan ahead when you can. One to three day activities need 4 to 6 weeks. Multi-day immersion projects need 2 to 3 months. Each proposal is priced case by case, and every dollar goes back into our work with communities.
The best corporate volunteering leaves something behind. A classroom where children can learn. A trail that protects a forest. Clean water reaching a home in the mountains. And a team that returns to work knowing it helped make that happen.
