How the Program Works

From your application to your return home, here’s everything you need to know about your Global Greentalist experience.

Your Journey From Start to Finish

A process designed to prepare, empower, and transform you.

Before the Program

Virtual Training (4 weeks)

Begin your transformation from home with our virtual training. Learn about Costa Rican culture, Greentalist methodology, group dynamics, and sustainable development fundamentals. This training prepares you to make the most of your in-country experience.

Arrival

Orientation (3-5 days)

We welcome you in San José and take you to your destination community. During this week you meet your international team, participate in cultural integration workshops, visit the community project where you'll work, and establish your personal learning plan with your coordinator.

Project

Active Community Work (2-3 projects)

The heart of your experience. You work on real projects with tangible impact: environmental education in schools, sustainable construction, ecosystem conservation, or community development. Daily reflection sessions help you process what you're learning and how you're growing.

End

Closure & Celebration (3 days)

You complete your project and celebrate with the community. You participate in a closing ceremony where you share your learning, receive feedback from community leaders, and create your post-volunteer action plan. You finish with a cultural adventure through Costa Rica before departing.

Alumni Community

Your experience doesn't end when you return home. You receive your participation certificate, access to our global alumni network, mentorship opportunities, and support to apply what you learned. Many participants return as team leaders or coordinators.
