Building Change

After months of planning, dedication, and teamwork, the Water for Tolok Kichá project successfully achieved its mission. Specifically, it provided safe drinking water, environmental education, and youth leadership training to the Cabécar indigenous community.

Moreover, thanks to the commitment of our Greentalist volunteers, the Tolok Kichá community, and the generosity of donors worldwide, over $8,000 were invested. This investment supported infrastructure, training, and environmental education.

In addition, this was not just a water project. Rather, it became a comprehensive effort to empower young leaders and promote sustainable practices.

Impact in Action

Traveling southeast from Turrialba, our team spent three hours by bus. Then, we hiked four more hours to reach Kaberi School, located in the Indigenous Territory of Cabécar Alto Chirripó.

The next day, crossing mountainous trails led us to Tolok Kichá, a beautiful yet challenging community. There, our transformative efforts began.

During the project, we installed 2.5 km of pipeline for potable water access. Additionally, we trained 15 young environmental leaders in leadership and Positive Environmental Actions. Out of them, 12 participated in the physical implementation.

Furthermore, we held four workshops with 52 students on the water cycle, sustainability, and environmental protection. Moreover, our work contributed to Sustainable Development Goals: 4, 6, 12, 13, 15, and 17. Also, we strengthened local environmental networks and advocacy skills, preparing young leaders to become future decision-makers.

This achievement was possible thanks to the dedication of Greentalist Generation 07 volunteers and the Tolok Kichá school and community members. Together, they worked hand-in-hand from planning to installation.

In addition, we gratefully acknowledge our strategic allies: Kaberi School, for providing accommodation; La Esquina Soda and Cafeteria, for preparing meals; Raleigh International, for access to their Field Base; and the Yo Me Uno Team BAC Bank, for supporting preparation through their competition, training sessions, and donation platform.

Finally, as one of the top five finalists in the Yo Me Uno BAC competition, we received an exclusive video. This video showcased our project, shared our impact, and inspired more people to support our cause.

Looking ahead

The story of our Greentalist Nacional volunteer projects is not ending, it is evolving. In 2026, Generation 8 will combine virtual training modules with Leadership in Action  a weekend of environmental work at a National Park.

Your support can make this and other projects possible.
