A day of action, learning and community impact

On December 7th, 2024, we celebrated Greentalist Volunteer Day with an inspiring Greentalist Society gathering. The day was filled with purpose and joy, as we not only created a pollinator garden but also shared practical tips on protecting these vital species. Additionally, this volunteer activity was organized in close partnership with the amazing team at Bicichocolate, which made the experience even more engaging and impactful.

Planting Seeds for Change

That Saturday blessed us with perfect weather, inspiring people, and a sweet, joyful energy. As a result, the pollinator garden turned out beautifully, serving as a living reminder of the positive impact we can achieve together.

During Greentalist Volunteer Day at Finca La Paulina in San Isidro de Heredia, we also experienced the inspiring story of Bicichocolate. Founded by Andrés Ulate, a young entrepreneur who started making cacao bars for his friends using bike-powered grinders, the brand has now grown nationally with a strong commitment to the environment. Furthermore, his vision motivated us to enrich the garden’s biodiversity through this meaningful volunteer action.

Learning, Flavors, and Inspiration

Andrés guided us through the day, not only joining us in planting (and happily getting our hands dirty!) but also leading a sensory immersion into the history and magic of cacao and chocolate. Moreover, his young son Monai lit up the activity with his contagious energy, reminding everyone of the importance of connecting generations through a shared love for nature.

During Greentalist Volunteer Day, I also had the opportunity to give a short environmental talk about pollinators. I highlighted why we must care for them and shared fascinating facts: many species carry out this essential role. It is not only the colorful butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, but also lesser-known species, like certain flies, which serve as the main pollinators of cacao.

This event was not only about planting; it was also about community, knowledge, and shared inspiration. Over four hours of meaningful activities, alumni and guests came together to connect, learn, and contribute. Furthermore, we were grateful to count on the presence of:

  • Eduardo Cortez

  • Flor Mendieta

  • Cristhian León

  • Raquel Zamora

  • Adela Alvarado

  • Josef Esquivel

Moving Forward Together

If you couldn’t join us this time, don’t worry. Our next volunteer activity and webinar will be announced very soon. We are also reactivating the Greentalist Commissions, and your support is key to strengthening this community.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we grow, inspire, and create lasting impact.

With appreciation,
Yorle Bermúdez
